Live Voluptuously!

Tulips sunning themselvesAs I walked the dogs in the neighborhood today, I was greeted by cheery tulips that had sprung up in the last few days. This reminded me of a poem sent to me 30 years ago by a friend. I’ve always loved it and wanted to share it with you.

 May You Live As Fully

I bought a pot of tulips

To brighten up my day

But the days went on and on

Until a week they did stay.

The tulips were just a-budding

The morning they were bought

But the morning after they

Opened up so wide

I saw them all a blazing

Yellow, gold and red deep inside.

The tulips moved in

Directions all their own.

They were a yearning and a

Burning to face the world

So bright. The tulip stems

They did not languish in the light.

Oh no not they. For their stems

They held them proudly come

What may. Their faces upward

Turned so still, so fresh so pure.

Never afraid were they to

Kiss the air and greet it endlessly.

They dared to live voluptuously.

Ah tulips, you have graced my

Sight and left your challenge to me.

May I grace my life to live as fully. ©Maryilyn Gottesfeld
